LTCA is a UK charity that was started in 1989 by a group of national voluntary organisations that wanted to campaign on areas of shared concern relating to long-term conditions. LTCA now has over 100 member organisations, from the largest health charities down to small unfunded support groups staffed by volunteers.
LTCA’s aims:
- to lobby for full implementation of existing health and social care policies that will improve the lives of people affected by long-term conditions
- to influence the creation and content of new national health and social care policies, and other aspects of public policy where appropriate, to benefit people affected by long-term conditions
- to promote a wide range of sustainable high-quality self-management programmes for people affected by long-term conditions
- to support member organisations to develop strong voices and effective services for their particular user groups
- to extend LTCA’s existing work for people affected by long-term conditions to benefit other health and social care service users
- to strengthen the health voluntary sector infrastructure to enable patient/carer voices to have a stronger influence on national policy-making.
